1. USGA rules govern all play except as otherwise modified
in the Local Rules.
2. Out
of Bounds: Defined as the
inside edge (course side) of white stakes,
perimeter fences, paved roads, curbing, and parking lots.
The ground on the homeowners' side of a penalty area is out of bounds.
3. Penalty
Areas: Defined by red stakes. Players may play their ball from a
penalty area provided the penalty area is not deemed a “No Play Zone”.
4. “No Play Zones” within a
penalty area are defined by red stakes with green tops. If a player’s ball lies within
a “No Play Zone”, the
player may not enter the area to retrieve the ball and must take relief with
one stroke penalty.
5. Wood Bulkheads: Are deemed to be an integral part of the course and
are not within a penalty area, therefore free
relief will not be granted.
6. Drop
Zones: Holes 8, 10, & 16: A
player, whose ball comes to rest in a Penalty Area in front of the green may, under
the penalty of one stroke,
drop a ball in the designated Drop Zone located in front
of the Jade tee.
7. Concrete
Cart Paths: A player may take
free relief by dropping
a ball within one club length of the nearest point
of relief, no nearer to the hole.
8. LOCAL
RULE - Shell Cart Paths: A
player may take free relief by dropping
a ball within one club length of the nearest point
of relief, no nearer to the hole. However,
no relief shall be given if the ball comes to rest on a shell cart path
designated with blue stakes, as this area is deemed a waste bunker.
9. LOCAL
RULE - Immovable Obstructions Close to Putting Green: Free
relief is available when a player’s ball and an immovable obstruction lie in a
closely mown area, and the immovable obstruction is within two club-lengths of the putting green and is also within
two club-lengths of the player’s ball,
as long as the obstruction lies in line with the player’s next shot. To take proper
relief, players must drop the
ball within one club-length of complete relief.
10. LOCAL
RULE (E-5) - Alternative to stroke and distance for a lost ball or ball out of bounds: When a
player's ball is lost or it is known or virtually certain to be Out of Bounds,
as an alternative to stroke and distance, players may operate as follows: For a penalty of 2 strokes,
players may take relief by dropping a ball anywhere within a relief
area. This relief area can be
determined by establishing a reference point defined as where the ball may have
last come to rest on the course, or where the ball last crossed the course
boundary. Using this reference point, players may extend their relief area to
the nearest closely mown area (grass cut to fairway height) and take an
additional two club-lengths, no nearer to the hole.
